Getting rid of Acne and Blemishes – the right way

Almost everyone will get a spot outbreak at some point in their lives - usually during the teenage years, but also during pregnancy, menopause, menstruation or periods of high stress.  When they happen it is important to deal with acne correctly as the wrong type of skincare can cause scarring, inflammation, discoloration or a painful infection.  Popping spots might get rid of the problem right away but can result in acne scars that you will carry for life.

Since acne is such a common problem a wide variety of treatments have been developed- acne treatment is a 1.4 billion dollar industry in the U.S alone.  Most over-the-counter acne treatments contain benzoyl peroxide, which increases skin-cell turnover and reduces the number of bacteria on your skin.  Although it can be effective in the short term benzoyl peroxide has some distinct disadvantages when compared to organic skin cleansers - it can seriously irritate the skin even in low concentrations of less than 2.5% or fail to work at all unless it is highly concentrated and as it is a peroxide it can bleach hair and clothes.  Your skin can also adapt to the chemical, meaning that higher concentrations will be needed to keep acne at bay.

Other treatments include chemical peels, phototherapy (the use of lasers and focussed light), Microdermabrasion (blasting away the top layer of skin with a spray of ultra-fine crystals), or for particularly severe infections (such as cystic acne) antibiotics or corticosteroids.

Prevention is always much better than a cure, which is why Green People’s phyto-science based products are perfect for those suffering from acne.  They work with your skin to balance sebum production and promote the growth of friendly bacteria.  They are light enough to cleanse your skin without the irritation that can be caused by chemical washes, reducing irritation and inflammation, leaving you with just clean, clear skin.
