Get the Most from Your Detox!
A detox is a great way of kicking off the New Year and recovering from the excesses of the festive season. Cleansing your body of its accumulated toxins gives a wonderful boost to your well-being and helps you to get ‘back in touch’ with your body.
This short guide to detoxing is designed to help you get the most from your detox so you can look and feel your best - inside and out.
Tips for Before & After Your Detox
Your body needs to be ready for detoxing in order to get optimum results so 1 week before you start your detox:
- Cut out all fatty, processed and sugary foods
- Stop drinking tea, coffee and other caffeinated drinks
- Stop smoking
- Increase your intake of fresh, organic fruit and vegetables
- Eat plenty of brown rice
- Take a spoonful of psyllium husk or linseeds with a large glass of water
You should try to return to this diet for at least 3 days after your detox has ended to aid your system’s cleansing. After that you can slowly reintroduce other items into your diet but don’t reintroduce toxins such as caffeine unless you really can’t bear to be without them!
Your Detox
This 3 day detox is suggested by Charlotte, founder of Green People. However as with all dietary advice, please be cautious if you suffer from any health complaints. If you are pregnant, please do not follow the detox diet but instead enrich your dietary intake with plenty of organic fruit and vegetables, water and herbal teas.
Day 1
Morning: Drink a glass of hot water with the juice of half a lemon (200ml).
Rest of the day: Eat grapes whenever you feel hungry. Aim to eat at least 1 kilo of grapes. Drink plenty of filtered or bottled water, herbal teas (try peppermint, camomile or ginger) and freshly squeezed, diluted carrot, celery and apple juice throughout the day. Minimum 8 glasses (200ml each).
Day 2
Morning: Drink a glass of hot water with the juice of half a lemon (200ml).
Rest of the day: Drink filtered or bottled water, herbal teas and vegetable juice made from any of the vegetables mentioned in the list above. Dilute with water: one part vegetable juice to one part water. Minimum 8 glasses (200ml each).
Day 3
Morning: Raw fruits from the list above. Eat as much as you like. Drink plenty of filtered or bottled water and herbal teas. If you find it difficult to eat raw fruits, try to create various fresh juice blends.
Lunch: Vegetable salad made with the vegetables from the above list. Can be raw or slightly cooked. Drink plenty of filtered or bottled water and herbal teas.
Supper: Vegetable soup made with vegetables from the list above. Drink plenty of filtered or bottled water and herbal teas.
