Women’s skin care shopping habits revealed

A new skin care survey has revealed that the majority of women buy beauty products that never get used, whilst others go years without updating their skin care regime.

The poll firstly looked at women’s shopping habits, uncovering the fact that the average woman will spend £5, 940 on beauty products throughout her lifetime.

However, it also revealed that 55% of ladies have made skin care purchases that they have never even opened, whilst 8 in 10 keep cosmetics despite the fact they do not intend to use them.

The survey also investigated women’s skin care regimes, exposing the fact that some of us could be paying a bit more attention in the beauty department.

5% reported that they didn’t even have a beauty regime, while 15% of women said that they still stuck to their teenage skin care routine – despite, in some cases, it being many years out of date.

If you don’t spend much time on your skin, don’t worry. Almost half of women said that they devoted 5 minutes or less a day to caring for their skin.

Essential skin care tips

If 5 minutes is your max, here are some tips for morning and evening to make the most of that time:

  • Gently apply cleanser in circular movements, wash off with warm water (1 min)
  • Follow with a splash of cold (20 secs)
  • Apply toner (if gel) using gentle tapping motions (1 min) or spritz with spray toner (30 secs)
  • Apply moisturiser using gentle stroking movements (1 min)

If you wear make-up, make sure you thoroughly remove it all before bed. You can combine that with your evening cleanse if you use a 2-in-1 product like Gentle Cleanse.

Once or twice a week try to spare an extra minute to exfoliate – your skin will thank you for it.
