We all know that cleansing your face regularly can help keep your skin clean and healthy but do you know which product is best for your skin type?

Here we explore the different types of cleansing products and help you decide which is best for you.

Why do you need to use cleanser?

By cleansing your face for two minutes, twice a day, you remove a build-up of oil, dirt, pollution and bacteria from the skin.

Whilst once it was considered enough to wash your face with a simple solution of soap and water, today we know that your choice of cleanser can not only determine how clean your skin is but can also determine whether you address or aggravate skin care concerns such sensitivity, dryness and signs of ageing.

THE CLEANSER DILEMMA

So that you can care for your skin as you cleanse, Green People produces a broad range of organic cleansing balms, cream cleansers and foaming face washes.

Not sure which organic cleanser is best for you? Read on to discover your perfect cleanser.

Cream cleansers for dry or sensitive skin

Designed to gently glide over the skin, cream cleansers have a light texture and should be applied to the face and neck using small circular movements.

Suitable for all skin types, all Green People cream cleansers are designed to hydrate and nourish the skin as they gently cleanse away dirt and impurities.

Our best-selling Gentle Cleanse & Make-Up Remover is an all-round essential for normal-dry skin.

Ultra-sensitive skin can be irritated by fragrance, so as not to irritate skin prone to eczema or rosacea, our range of organic cream cleansers also include a scent free cleanser.

Like sensitive skin, mature skin needs to be delicately cared for. That’s why we produce an anti-ageing cream cleanser that’s specially formulated with free-radical fighting antioxidants that keep skin feeling soft, clean and youthful.

Cleansing balms for oily or mature skin

Cleansing balms typically have an oily consistency and when applied to the skin they nourish the complexion whilst breaking down make-up and impurities.

Formulated to prevent dryness and improve skin elasticity, our rejuvenating Ultimate Wonder Balm stimulates cell renewal and is an ideal choice for mature skin.

If you have oily skin you might recoil at the idea of using an oil-based cleanser but cleansing the skin with a good quality, natural cleansing balm can help balance sebum levels and stop your skin overproducing oil.

Foaming face washes for combination or spot-prone skin

Foaming face washes produce a foam which gentle cleanses deep inside each pore and helps to dislodge dirt and grime from the skin’s surface.

Foaming face washes are great for spot-prone skin because they are so effective at drawing out impurities from the skin. If you have sensitive skin, care should be taken to avoid foaming face washes containing the skin irritating foaming agent Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS). All Green People face washes are SLS-free.

Skin blemishes and acne can be exacerbated by astringent skin care ingredients.

For this reason we pack our foaming face washes with natural antibacterial ingredients such as Willow Bark and Tea Tree extract which control bacteria without aggravating sensitive skin.

Face wipes: ideal for no-one

A quick, convenient and cheap way to clean your face, face wipes are sheets of tissue moistened with chemical components and preservatives such as parabens or alcohol (ethanol or ethyl alcohol).

Faces wipes might quickly clear the skin of make-up, oil and dead skin but, because they are rich in skin-drying alcohol, rubbing them over the skin may result in irritated, inflamed skin that is more prone to breakouts.

If you don’t have access to running water a better solution to wet wipes is Green People’s Foaming Face Wash with an organic cotton pad or clean cloth. Packed with powerful natural actives and can be left on the skin overnight for extra spot-fighting power.

Can you combine your cleansers?

Yes! Combining your cleansers is highly recommended, especially if you wear a lot of make-up.

Long-lasting make-up can be stubborn to shift and if left on the skin overnight, can clog the pores and contribute to irritation and breakouts.

For this reason, if you apply make-up to the skin in the day, you should always take the time to double cleanse at night.

Double cleansing involves using a combination of cleansers to deeply clean the skin. The best double cleansing technique is to use an oil-based cleanser first to dissolve and remove your make-up.

After rinsing, apply a cream or foaming cleanser, such as Gentle Cleanse & Make-up Remover or Foaming Face Wash to help remove any excess oil as well as any dirt or pollutants missed by your first cleanse.
