Mineral Make-Up FAQ’s
Do you have questions about Green People's certified natural and organic mineral make up? Find your answers here!
What is Mineral Make-up?
Quite simply, it’s made from crushed natural rock minerals derived from the earth. Green People have cleverly combined the minerals with the finest blend of organic plant oils, Beeswax, Cupuaçu and Shea butters to make a range of pure, gentle and highly effective cosmetics.
Why is mineral make-up better for your skin?
Our mineral make-up is natural and 100% pure so it’s gentle and will not irritate
your skin. The minerals sit on the skin’s surface so they do not clog pores, letting
your skin breathe naturally. Our ingredients work to nourish, protect and energise skin with natural Vitamin E, antioxidants and Omega-6 essential fatty acids. Beeswax creates a protective barrier to retain moisture in face, lips and lashes! The combined result is soft, radiant skin that is cared for naturally!
How does mineral make-up look on your skin?
The minerals' silky lightness provides a natural, full coverage. Minerals reflect
light off the skin, giving the illusion that it is smoother and flawless by minimising
pores and evening out wrinkles and fine lines - for a softer, more youthful and
radiant appearance.
Green People’s mineral make-up is so lightweight and silky soft – it doesn’t feel like you’re wearing any make-up at all, it’s just like your second skin!
What’s the difference between minerals and mineral oils?
The minerals in mineral make-up are naturally occurring mineral pigments derived
from the earth. Unlike mineral oils, which are by-products of the petro-chemical
industry, they allow the skin to breath and do not aggravate conditions such as
acne and spots.
Is the make-up suitable for sensitive skin?
All of our make-up is free of synthetic fragrances, petrochemicals, Parabens, Silicones,
Phthalates, Artificial Colours – all well known skin irritants. Green People’s organic
make-up contains only natural ingredients making it very gentle on the skin.
Is the make-up suitable for those prone to skin conditions like acne, psoriasis
or rosacea?
Mineral make up won’t clog pores and is 100% hypoallergenic, so it allows the skin
to breathe and function normally. Mineral make-up is great at hiding blemishes and
skin imperfections due to its strong natural pigmentation.
How do I decide on which mineral powder shade will suit me?
We have three shades of Pressed Mineral Powders: Honey suits skin with a pink undertone;
Caramel is for those with a yellow undertone or for reducing the appearance of redness;
Maple suits those with an olive skin tone.
What is a skin undertone?
An undertone is the tone that shows through your skin, there are three undertones; cool, warm and neutral.
- A pale, rosy, ebony, or dark-red cast to skin usually indicates that you have a cool tone (go for our Pressed Mineral Powder in Honey)
- Warm, yellow and golden tones usually lend themselves to a warm undertone (go for our Pressed Mineral Powder in Caramel)
- If you have a blend of both, have a sun tan or are more olive toned, then you have a neutral undertone to your skin (go for our Pressed Mineral Powder in Maple)
n.b. Maple can be mixed with either Honey or Caramel depending on your undertone when you start to get tanned.

How do you achieve the colours in the make-up?
Our natural mineral make-up is made without the use of synthetic colours and our organic lipsticks
are free from carmine (crushed bugs that give a red pigment). Instead our powders
are made with natural mineral pigments derived from the earth that are gentle on
skin and provide effective coverage.
What is the best way to apply the Mineral Powders?
Mineral make-up blends seamlessly, without causing a ‘tide-mark’ effect. Use a brush
for a natural coverage and remember to build the base up rather than putting lots
on at once. Swirl brush once (for light coverage) or twice (for fuller coverage) around the pressed powder, tap off the excess. Apply pressed powder in downward strokes, moving inwards, starting with each cheek, the T-zone and lastly the nose and chin – reapply the powder for each area of the face.
What have I done wrong if my make up looks blotchy or uneven?
This is usually when a moisturiser or primer hasn’t been absorbed into the skin
thoroughly before the mineral make-up is applied. Wait a few moments for the moisturiser
to absorb into the skin, before applying make up, so that the make-up is even on
the skin’s surface.
Why is the make-up range Vegetarian and not Vegan?
Our new range contains Beeswax, a key ingredient for bonding the mineral pigments and other ingredients together. Beeswax is gorgeous for the skin as it contains natural properties to soothe skin, it creates a protective barrier for the skin and lips, thereby retaining moisture in those areas.
What is your Kabuki brush made from?
Our Eco Kabuki brush is free of animal hair and uses a revolutionary new technology to create super soft hairs that give a professional application. With an organic bamboo handle, the whole brush production process has minimal impact on our environment and no formaldehyde or toxic glues or varnish are used in any part of manufacture. Use with pressed mineral powders and pure blush to give professional results for a flawless look!
What is the best way to remove make up?
Green People’s cleansers are perfect for removing all traces of make up. All are
alcohol free and rich in essential fatty acids to help keep the moisture in the
skin. There is an assortment of products suitable for all skin types.
Why is there Talc in your make-up?
Talc is used to hold the mineral pigments together and to give a soft feel on skin and prevent shine, thereby creating a range of highly effective products.
In pressed form, talc is perfectly safe to use. Concerns about talc are related to the use of loose powdered talc, the main ingredient in baby powders, body powders and loose foundations, if breathed in it can be harmful to the lungs or if using around the genital area, talc particles can become imbedded in the lining of the ovary and is linked to an increased risk of ovarian cancer.
The natural talc in our cosmetics is pressed into a base of emulsifying waxes and oils, this means the talc cannot be breathed in, and as the products are not used on the genital area there is no risk of absorption in that area.
Many mineral make-up brands that don’t use talc use Bismuth oxychloride. Though a natural by-product, bismuth oxychloride often causes itching, rashes and mild to severe cystic acne. If you have had a reaction to mineral cosmetics in the past it is likely because of the bismuth oxychloride in the product.
The Green People organic cosmetic range is perfectly safe and is not linked to any of the health concerns relating to talc in its loose powdered form.
