Sunscreen and prickly heat
Some people who have prickly heat find that switching to different sunscreen can
help them to avoid the itchy, red rash which is typical of the condition. Prickly
heat is caused when sweat glands become blocked and sweat is prevented from leaving
the body. Instead, it is forced into the skin surrounding the blocked gland, leaving
a rash of bumps or blisters.
Waterproof sunscreens
Many high street sunscreens have waterproofing ingredients in them. Whilst this
might be a good thing if you are going to be in the water, this waterproofing can
also block the skin’s pores. Combined with a hot day, this can create the perfect
conditions for sweat to build up and prickly heat to develop.
If you suffer from prickly heat and have sensitive skin, choosing an organic sunscreen
may also help. People can have allergic reactions to some synthetic sunscreen ingredients,
such as para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) and Butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane. Choosing
organic sunscreens which do not contain these ingredients will reduce the chance
that your skin will react.
Green People’s organic sunscreen
Green People’s organic sunscreens are mildly water resistant but do not contain
the pore-clogging ingredients which can lead to prickly heat.
Our entire sun cream range is also free from PABA, artificial fragrances and Butyl
methoxydibenzoylmethane so may be suitable for those with sun cream allergies. For
those with allergies to essential oils, we recommend our No Scent SPF22 organic
sunscreen.
