Lanolin is a wax that is found in the fleece coats of animals such as sheep and lambs. Generally, Lanolin is considered a safe cosmetic ingredient that is well tolerated by the skin but it can also be easily contaminated and is a known skin allergen.

It is thought that as many as 2% of people with eczema or dermatitis have a lanolin allergyand because the ingredient has the potential to irritate sensitive skin, we err on the side of caution and do not use it in any of our products.

Another reason that we do not use lanolin is because the ingredient is not suitable for vegans. As a cruelty-free and PETA approved brand we avoid using animal derived ingredients as much as possible and do not believe it is necessary to extract this ingredient from animal coats for cosmetic purposes. Instead we make our range of cruelty-free and lanolin-free balms, salves and beauty products with natural plant waxes, such as Berry wax and Carnauba wax.

Cracked nipples can make breastfeeding your baby a painful experience and applying our organic Nipple Balm can help to relieve the discomfort.

100% natural and entirely lanolin-free, our natural Nipple Balm contains calming calendula and nourishing Shea Butter to soothe mum’s sensitive skin and is also free-from parabens, phthalates, paraffin, mineral oil and lanolin. This makes it is safe for babies and young infants to ingest and means that it does not need to be washed off before breastfeeding.

Eczema sufferers can be at greater risk of experiencing an allergic reaction to lanolin and may also find that chemical filters used in some sun creams can aggravate their skin.

So that everyone can enjoy the skin safely we make our SPF30 Scent Free Sun Lotions without Lanolin, harsh chemicals, synthetic fragrance or pore- clogging ingredients. This makes our natural sun care the ideal choice for sensitive skin and people prone to prickly heat.

Love lipstick but need your lipstick to be lanolin-free? Lipstick is largely comprised of wax and while Lanolin is an oily wax that will envelop the lips and lock in moisture, other natural waxes, such as beeswax, have similar benefits.

To make our Berry Nude and Damask Rose lipsticks lanolin-free, we start with a hard wax called Carnauba. This gives our natural lipstick a strong structure and matte texture. So that our lipsticks glide onto the lips we then add soothing Beeswax. A water-repellent wax, Beeswax is a super soft ingredient and in addition to making our lipstick extra easy to apply, it locks in the colour whilst keeping the lips soft and hydrated.

Like lanolin, Beeswax can also be used to hydrate and protect chapped lips and to create our nourishing Enrich and Enhance Lip Primer, we combine beeswax with Carnauba and vitamin E rich- Sunflower Seed oil. Ideal for softening sore skin, this helps the skin to maintain water and is rich in nutrients and antioxidants.

Looking for a way to keep your hands soft and nourished with a lanolin-free hand cream? Instead of using Lanolin in our Manuka & Lemon Tea Tree Hand Cream we use eight base oils which work in synergy to reinforce skin barrier function, hydrate the skin and improve skin elasticity.

For added nourishment we combine these oils with a range of natural plant actives including Marshmallow Root extract, an excellent emollient which has anti-inflammatory benefits to reduce the red appearance of irritated skin, along with Aloe Vera.  When the skin is dry and sore it is important to keep it well hydrated and in addition to delivering hydration to the skin, Aloe Vera contains a huge range of nutrients and active enzymes which play an important role in maintaining skin health.
