Have you changed your moisturiser recently or have you been using the same one for years? Are you unsure which organic day cream is best for your skin right now?

Here we help you to find your ideal everyday organic moisturiser, whether you are in your teens, 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s or beyond.

Why use day cream?

A good day cream is an essential for every skin type. These moisturising facial products are designed to be used every day and deliver hydration to the skin whilst supporting its natural functions and oil levels. The right organic day cream can help protect your skin from:

  • Dryness
  • Elasticity loss and wrinkles
  • Inflammation & irritation
  • Sun damage
  • Spots and imperfections
  • Pigment problems

Day creams can contain a vast range of ingredients and it can be a challenge to find the moisturising day cream that is best for your skin needs. Our Day Cream Label decoder can help you to scan your skin care labels for actives that nourish your skin, and those that might cause irritation.

Day cream label decoder

Most day creams will contain:

  • A water base: This is often the first item on the label and may be Aqua, a floral water or Aloe Vera.
  • A softening emollient: We use organic plant oils as these soften the skin and are biodegradable. Synthetic emollients like paraffin and mineral oil can also be used to make day creams but can be pore-clogging and have been known to cause skin irritation.
  • A hydrating humectant: We use plant-based humectants such as Glycerine. Collagen and Keratin are also humectants but are generally animal-derived and not suitable for vegans.
  • Preservatives: These are added to prevent contamination from a range of micro-organisms. Parabens are a commonly used day cream ingredient but, because they have been linked to health concerns, all Green People day creams are paraben free.
  • Fragrance: Some day creams use synthetic fragrances but, as these can cause skin irritation, we use a natural blend of essential oils to give our skin care a botanical aroma with therapeutic benefits. Sensitive skin can be easily irritated by even the purest of essential oils and for those unable to tolerate fragrance, we created a range of fragrance-free skin care.

We know deciphering skin care labels can be difficult, so we’ve created a helpful guide to buying the best day cream for your skin type and for your age bracket.

Find the best day cream for you

The best day cream for teenagers

Sebum is a natural skin oil which is known to attract acne bacteria. During your younger years sebaceous gland activity is high and this means that your chance of experiencing breakouts is increased. Teens can also experience hormonal acne, especially around the time of their period.

To calm and control blemishes teens need a non-greasy and non-comedogenic day cream that’s rich in spot-fighting actives. We recommend using the Oy! Clear Skin Cleansing Moisturiser Day Cream every day during your teenage years.

A natural day cream for acne-prone skin, it combines skin-balancing Prebiotics with spot-reducing Willow Bark and Green Tea. It also contains Rosehip which regenerates the skin to reduce the risk of acne scarring.

The best day cream for 20s

Sebum levels can remain imbalanced long after you have said goodbye to your teens and it is normal to get adult acne or breakouts, especially when stressed or around the time of your period.

The best natural day cream ingredient for skin prone to adult acne is Willow Bark extract. This natural alternative to Salicylic acid reduces blemish inflammation without irritating skin.

Prebiotics supply the skin with good bacteria and using a Prebiotic day cream that contains Willow Bark extract will help to keep your skin clear. We recommend using our Day Solution Day Cream which contains both of these skin-balancing ingredients.

We also offer a Day Solution with built-in SPF for everyday protection.

The best day cream for 30s

If you are concerned about the first signs of ageing, the best anti-ageing day cream for your 30s is a moisturiser made with Baicalin.

Fine lines start to appear on the skin during your late 20s and early 30s and are a sign that your skin is losing its elastin and cannot hold moisture as well as it did in your teens.

A remarkable ingredient, Baicalin extends the vitality of skin cells and helps to slow the skin ageing process. You can find Baicalin in our Vita Min Fix 24 Hour Cream.

More and more women are choosing to have children during their 30s. Pregnant women may notice that their skin produces more sebum, which can make the skin feel oily, block pores and attract acne bacteria.

If you are suffering with spots in your 30s during pregnancy, we recommend our light, skin-balancing Scent Free Light Day Moisturiser, which uses Prebiotics and Willow Bark to restore a healthy skin balance. You can also protect sensitive skin from UV damage with our SPF30 Scent Free Facial Sun Cream.

The best day cream for 40s and 50s and beyond

In your 40s, 50s and beyond, the skin often becomes drier which means that wrinkles appear more pronounced. This can be mitigated by applying a moisture-retaining day cream enriched with potent, antioxidants and natural anti-ageing actives, such as Baicalin. As you enter your 50s, sun damage may also be more visible on the skin and you may notice patches of hyperpigmentation.

At this life stage it is important to keep the skin well supplied with moisture and to support the skin’s turnover rate, which is the rate which skin rejuvenates itself. You can do this by using a gentle face scrub 2-3 times a week and by using a day cream that’s enriched with actives that refine and brighten the skin.

Our intensively moisturising Age Defy+ Brightening Moisturiser is the best day cream choice for women aged 40+ and combines anti-ageing Rosehip oil with gently exfoliating Pineapple enzymes and skin-refining Beech Bud.

We also recommend the Age Defy+ Tinted Moisturiser SPF15, which contains Spanish Needle to stimulate collagen and Sea Fennel Plant Stem cells to increase hydration.

The best day cream for the menopause

During the menopause, women’s skin gets thinner, dryer and may be prone to sensitivity and rosacea.

The best day cream for sensitive, mature skin is our Scent Free Anti-Ageing 24-Hour Cream. Made without essential oils this gentle, anti-ageing day cream combines wrinkle-fighting Baicalin with soothing Prebiotics and moisturising Squalane to deliver soft and balanced skin radiance.

Squalane is a plant-based, natural emollient which calms skin irritation and helps to restore and rehydrate your skin barrier. Baicalin is a natural skin care ingredient extracted from the Baical Skullcap plant which has a remarkable anti-ageing effect on skin aged 30+. Its been shown to increase elasticity and firmness by 10-12% and is thought to help restore skin to its state 10 years previously!

If you are looking for an SPF that has added anti-ageing benefit for menopausal and mature skin, we recommend our Age Defy+ Daily Defence SPF30 moisturiser.
