Giving your life a plant-based make-over for 2020? Don’t forget your skin care! To help you make the transition to a vegan lifestyle, we’ve shared our top tips for achieving a successful skin care Veganuary!
TAKE YOUR TIME:
Start by slowly swapping new products into your regime. Not only does this minimise wastage, it also gives your skin time to adjust.
KEEP A DIARY:
Keeping a diary helps you to track your progress and allows you to monitor for any changes and improvements to your skin.
TRY SOMETHING NEW:
LOOK FOR THE LOGO:
Without carefully deciphering the label of your skin care, it can be hard to know if a product is truly vegan. An easy way to be sure is to check the packaging for the Vegan Society logo. This is clearly marked on all our vegan products and certifies that the products have been approved by the Vegan Society.
BE WARY OF BEESWAX:
Many vegans opt to avoid using products derived from beehives such as honey and beeswax. Naturally water resistant, beeswax gives natural staying power to skin care and make-up and is made from a mixture of plant wax, pollen and a secretion from bee glands.
Whilst most Green People products are vegan and do not contain beeswax, this natural ingredient is used in some of our salves, hand care, make-up and sun cream products.
The Beeswax used in Green People products is gathered from sustainable and organic hives and it is a requirement of organic certification that the bees are treated responsibly, and that beekeeping is practised in a clean environment which does not expose the bees to harmful chemicals.
Want to avoid beeswax completely? You can be assured that all Green People products that feature the Vegan Society logo do not contain Beeswax.
BE ON YOUR GUARD FOR GELATINE:
LOOK OUT FOR LANOLIN:
Lanolin is a wax that is derived from animals with wool coats. It can be used in balms and salves but Green People products are all lanolin-free. Instead we use natural plant waxes like Berry wax and Carnauba wax.
DON’T FORGET YOUR SUN CREAM:
Jetting off for some winter sun? Some sun lotions can contain chemicals that are harmful to coral reefs and the damage they can do is so severe that some countries have even banned the use of sun lotions containing ingredients such as Oxybenzone.
To be sure your sun lotion is not harmful to ocean plants or animals, opt for a natural, biodegradable sun cream that offers broad-range sun protection, like our SPF15 Edelweiss Sun Lotion with Tan Accelerator. Certified vegan and approved by the Marine Conservation Society, it is 100% ocean and reef friendly and available in a 200ml bottle as well as travel-sized 100ml and 30ml bottles.
You are doing a brilliant thing to help protect our wonderful planet, so make sure you celebrate your success by pampering your skin with our plant-based treats.
