What is micellar face wash & how do I use it?

Micellar face washes are a popular, effective way to gently cleanse the skin of dirt, make-up and impurities.

Here we explain why we use make-up dissolving micelles to make our Cranberry Micellar Foam face wash and explain how this organic face wash leaves the skin feeling so refreshingly pure.

What is micellar face wash?

Micelles are make-up dissolving actives that are used to make micellar makeup removers. Micelles are skin-kind and have a unique molecular set-up that allows make-up and dirt to be thoroughly cleansed away with a water-like touch that won’t cause skin irritation.

After cleansing with our Cranberry Micellar Foam, skin is left calm and dewy, and is perfectly primed to absorb a multi-layer skin care routine consisting of a natural skin serum and a natural facial oil or moisturiser.

Is a micellar cleansing foam good for my skin type?

Natural micellar water products are very gentle on the skin and our Cranberry Micellar Foam is suitable for all skin types.

It offers all the natural purifying goodness of organic micellar water but with the texture of a light, frothy foam.

Micellar wash benefits for dry and sensitive skin

Unlike oil-based cleansing balms, natural micellar waters are largely water based. This hydrating purity means micellar waters are ideal for those with sensitive skin and those with very dry skin.

Dry, sensitive skin can be irritated by stringent, synthetic ingredients like SLS, skin-drying Ethyl alcohols and synthetic fragrances. To ensure that our scent-free Cranberry Micellar Foam face wash is skin-compatible and won’t cause such irritation, we do not use any of these ingredients in our products.

Instead, we enrich our pH-balanced micellar cleanser for sensitive skin with actives that nurture the skin barrier, such as skin-replenishing Apple Cellular Water and moisture-retaining Glycerine.

Although our formula is very gentle, we do recommend it is not used on very sensitive eyes.

Micellar wash benefits for spot-prone skin

Those with congested, acne-prone skin that is irritated by stringent face washes can also benefit from using a micelle-based make-up remover.

Whilst our Cranberry Micellar Foam does not contain spot-fighting actives like Witch Hazel or Tea Tree, this gentle foam lightly lifts pore-clogging impurities out of the skin without irritation and is rich in antioxidant Cranberry actives.

TOP TIP: Can’t clear your spots? Cleansing twice a day with an SLS-free foam face wash will help to decongest the skin and reduce your chances of attracting acne bacteria.

Is a micellar cleanser good for an anti-pollution skin care routine?

Pollutant particles are small enough to fit into the pores and clog them so regularly cleansing the skin is key to building an effective anti-pollution skin care routine.

The fantastic thing about using our antioxidant-rich Cranberry Micellar Foam is that its frothy foaming action is effective at dislodging deeply engrained impurities from the pores.

If you live in an urban environment and protecting your skin from pollutant particles is a key priority for you, we recommend cleansing twice daily with the Cranberry Micellar Foam.

Another thing you can do to shield your skin from city pollutions is to layer your skin care using a combination of antioxidant-rich serums, moisturisers and facial oils. Find out more about building an anti-pollution skin care routine.

What’s the best way to use a micellar face wash?

Our foaming micellar face wash is so gentle that it can be used AM and PM to cleanse the skin of any impurities. The best way to use our Cranberry Micellar Foam is to massage one to two pumps over the face. The massaging action will gently lift away make-up and impurities which can then be released from the skin with a splash of tepid water, a clean flannel, or cotton wool pads. Try to avoid the eye area.

Our Cranberry Micellar Foam is designed to be used in conjunction with the other skin care products in the Nordic Roots range and is enriched with skin hydrating actives including juicy Apple Cellular Water and moisture-retaining Glycerine. The addition of these moisture-boosting actives means that skin feels dewy after cleansing and is perfectly primed to absorb the moisturising products in the Nordic Roots range

For skin that feels soft and cushiony, cleanse the skin and then apply the Nordic Roots Hyaluronic Booster Serum, followed by the Nordic Roots Apple Complex Moisturiser. Finally, apply a few drops of the Nordic Roots Marine Facial Oil to seal in skin hydration and secure a soft skin-glow.
