The word Clove comes from the Latin ‘clavus’, referring to the nail shaped Clove bud. It is a native of Indonesia and was cultivated by the Portuguese until the seventeenth century.
Clove has traditionally been used to prevent contagious diseases and is known as an excellent dental care remedy for gum infections. It is widely used in everything from perfumes to mulled wines and dental care formulations.
Also known as: Eugenia caryophyllus bud oil
Early Greeks and Romans believed Fennel offered longevity as well as courage and strength. The name Fennel comes from the Latin word 'foenum' which means hay.
Fennel helps relief digestive problems such as bloating and excess wind. The oil is both energising and calming, has excellent anti-inflammatory properties, helps with oedema, clearing oily skin and fight wrinkles.
Also known as: Foeniculum vulgare oil
Myrrh is mentioned several times in the Bible and is famous, together with frankincense and gold, as the gifts brought by the three Magi to Jesus when he was born.
It calms the mind, is cooling on skin and good for cracked and chapped skin.
Also known as: Commiphora myrrha oil
Propolis is produced by bees and is made from a combination of resins gathered from certain tree buds and waxes produced by the honey bee.
It is used by bees to seal any gaps in the hive to make it airtight, and to line the inside of the hive to keep it free from infection from bacteria and fungi that would otherwise thrive in the warm, moist conditions of the hive.
