Known as ‘The Tree of Life’, the Baobab tree or ‘Adansonia’ thrives in the dry areas of Madagascar, Africa and Australia. Their swollen stems can be as large at 47 metres in circumference and are able to store massive amounts of water to cope with seasonal droughts.
Baobab fruits are around the size of a coconut with powdery flesh that’s rich in vitamin C. To extract the oil, the seeds of the Baobab fruit are cold pressed, keeping the oil naturally dense in vitamins and minerals.
Known as the ‘queen of waxes’, Carnauba wax is produced from the leaves of the carnauba palm or ‘copernicia prunifera’. This slow-growing fan palm can grow up to 15 metres tall and is native to the semi-arid areas of north-eastern Brazil, where it is perfectly adapted to withstanding drought.
The wax is extracted from the upper surface of the leaves and is the hardest natural wax available. It also has a very high melting point, making it perfect for thickening and stabilising make-up products such as Lip Crayons and Primers, as well as giving lips a beautifully glossy sheen.
The Shea tree grows wild in West Africa and the butter is made from the Shea nuts.
The fairly traded Shea butter in our products is produced by a women’s co-operative in northern Ghana.
