Are you researching silicone in shampoo? We’re here to help you to find the best shampoo for hair that is full of natural vitality.

We create silicone-free shampoos because silicone is not permitted for use by organic certification bodies.

Our shampoos are made with plant proteins and extracts to support naturally healthy looking, shiny hair.

What are silicones?

Silicones are polymers with a chemical structure based on chains of alternate silicon and oxygen atoms.

Silicones can be used in cosmetic products such as shampoo and conditioner. When used in hair care, they form a layer around the hair shaft and help to give your hair added shine and smoothness.

There are many different types of silicones and, if you are reviewing your hair care and want to find out if you have silicones in your shampoo, it can be hard to tell from the ingredients list if you don’t know what you are looking for.

If there’s anything that ends in “-cone”, that is highly likely to be a type of silicone, e.g. dimethicone.

Do organic shampoos contain silicones?

Shampoos primarily cleanse the hair but there’s also a lot of ingredients that can be added to shampoos to help the hair feel strong, shiny and soft.

Silicones are not currently permitted by any of our certificating organic bodies and, to secure a certified organic status for our hair care, our shampoos must not contain silicones.

We make our natural shampoos and conditioners with organic essential oils and extracts that penetrate the hair shaft and help to nourish and hydrate your hair.

This makes our shampoo a particularly good hair care choice for those with curly, dry or damaged hair that needs a bit of extra TLC.

Green People Quinoa Shampoo and Conditioner

Essential oils and extracts used in our shampoos include:

  • Quinoa Protein
  • Lavender Oil
  • Sweet Orange Oil
  • Lemon Peel Oil
  • Green Tea Leaf Extract

For those sensitive to essential oils, we also offer a Scent Free Shampoo that is made without any essential oils and suitable for those prone to an irritated scalp.

Find an organic shampoo for your hair goals

Here are two of our favourite organic silicone-free shampoo and conditioner suggestions to help you find the best pair for your hair:

For volume, shine and bounce:

Our Quinoa hair care products contain hydrating, conditioning plant extracts to restore lustrous shine and vitality. They are suitable for all hair types.

For damaged hair:

If your hair has been damaged by colouring or blow drying, our Intensive Repair hair care is what you need. These products make the perfect treat for stressed out hair.

For sensitive scalp:

If you have allergies or you have a sensitive scalp, our unscented hair care products are the best for you. Made without essential oils or artificial fragrance, they gently cleanse the hair and scalp, and leave hair soft and shiny.

As with any hair care switch, you may experience a period of adjustment in which your hair takes a few days to get used to your new shampoo and conditioner.

Don’t worry, stick with it! The long-term benefits are healthy, shiny hair that is strong, soft and naturally nourished. You should see a positive difference in a matter of weeks.
