Eczema and Pompholyx
Eczema is a skin condition which is diagnosed in around 1 in 6 children. Most grow
out of it by their teenage years, and only between 2% and 10% of adults display
its symptoms. In ‘dry’ eczema these include dry, red, inflamed and itchy skin, most
commonly around the joints where the skin rubs against itself, such as the knees,
elbows, wrists and neck. An exception to this is in babies, where eczema is commonly
seen on the face.
If you have more severe eczema, or the affected skin is sufficiently disturbed,
you may develop weeping, blistered patches. This is known as ‘wet’ eczema, and its
symptoms are treated in a different way to ‘dry’ eczema.
