Psoriasis

Psoriasis affects around 2 in 100 people in the UK, and is characterised by red, scaly patches of skin which are known as plaques. These plaques often have a whitish sheen to them, and can be itchy. As well as occurring on the skin, different forms of psoriasis can also affect the scalp, nails and joints.

It is difficult to predict when flare-ups of psoriasis will occur, as they are not connected to allergies, as with sensitive skin or eczema. However, treatment can be similar, with the application of creams to soothe and help the skin recover, although in some cases, phototherapy (non-burning exposure to sunlight) has been shown to help.
