With warmer weather on its way, you can check playtime sun protection off your worry list with a guide to helping children learn about the importance of sun cream for school and how to apply it by themselves.
How to apply sun cream for children
All school-age children can learn how to apply sunscreen and there’s plenty of fun and educational activities you do to help them understand how much to apply and when to apply it.
HEADS, SHOULDERS, KNEES AND TOES
A childhood classic, the game of heads, shoulders, knees and toes helps children to learn about the body and gets them moving, but have you ever thought to use it to educate young minds on where they should apply their sun cream?
Switch the lyrics to face, arms, knees to toes and don’t forget those all-important hands, ears and nose – they’re commonly missed by adults as well as children!
Worried your child won’t be able to rub in their sun cream independently? We recommend first patting sun cream into the skin, and a game of pat-a-cake can help children to do this. Once the creamy lotion has been lightly tapped, it will sink into the skin with ease.
Which sun cream for school?
We love the 50ml size of our Organic Children Scent Free Sun Cream for school. A great size for popping in their bookbag or tray at school, it is eczema-friendly and even suitable for children who are prone to prickly heat.
The squeezy, sugar cane plastic sun cream tube also makes it easy for children to apply their own sun protection.
Cool after school
After they’ve had an evening bath to wash away the sunscreen, they can practise their sun cream application technique with a little soothing Organic Children Aloe Vera Lotion & After Sun.
As well as being a lovely post-bath general moisturiser, it is made with skin-cooling Aloe Vera and soothing Calendula, Myrrh and Lavender to make it ideal after time spent in the sun.
