Horsham-based organic skin care brand Green People is best known for its green ethics and natural beauty formulations but each May we sport black and white stripes all in the name of charity.
A long-standing supporter of the connective tissue disorder charity The Ehlers-Danlos Support UK (EDS UK), Green People already donates a proportion of its annual profits to this lifeline charity.
Raising awareness and funds for EDS UK
As May is Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) Awareness Month, we help to raise funds and awareness of EDS by donning zebra fancy-dress and completing a ‘Dazzle Walk’.
The Dazzle Walk is an annual fundraising event organised by EDS UK and gets its name because the zebra is the charity’s symbol, and a dazzle is the name given to a group of zebra.
Green People’s 2023 Dazzle Walk raised £2,600 and, as the team walked, they remembered Alexandra Kay, a much-missed team member and the daughter of Green People founder Charlotte Vøhtz.
In memory of Alexandra Kay
Alexandra Kay was diagnosed with EDS in her early twenties after over 12 years of searching for an answer to her many symptoms ranging from chronic pain, fatigue, hypermobility to severe digestive issues.
Alexandra sadly passed away aged just 28. Committed to helping others, before she died she launched a natural wellbeing brand brand with Green People. The walk aims to honour her legacy by generating much-needed funds to help improve EDS diagnosis times and treatment options.
Charlotte Vøhtz created Green People in 1997. She said:
“My daughter was the inspiration behind Green People. She suffered from a chronic, debilitating condition called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and the Alexandra Kay wellness range that we formulated together helped her a lot.
“Sadly, my daughter passed away in June 2021 and in her memory Green People is committed to helping fulfil Alexandra’s legacy of helping others with EDS.”
