MEET THE GREEN PEOPLE GROWERS

Ever wondered where we source our certified organic ingredients from? All Green People products are made either in the UK, or in our Scandinavian manufacturing facility and most are made with fairly-traded ingredients. We search the World to find the highest quality ingredients and make sure that growers always get a fair price for their produce so that they can support their local community.

THE MYRRH COLLECTORS

Himba tribe

A cooling, anti-inflammatory ingredient, Myrrh accelerates skin healing and is an ingredient we use in many of our sun care and oral health formulations. Supporting small farmers and independent growers is a key part of the Green People philosophy, that’s why we always source our Myrrh from an ancient Himba tribe in Namibia. A nomadic tribe, the Himba people rely on the sale of their Myrrh to survive and Green People has supported their community for over a decade. Once the Myrrh resin is harvested from Myrrh bushes growing in Namibia’s arid soil, it is brought to Europe where the oil is extracted and incorporated into our formulas, safe in the knowledge that those who harvested the Myrrh received a fair income for their product that will be used to support their way of life.

Myrrh must-haves:

THE SHEA SUPPLIERS

shea butter supplier

We use Shea Butter in almost all our products. This versatile ingredient is highly hydrating, rich in vitamins and helps to protect and heal dry, sore skin. The butter is derived from Shea nuts which are grown on Shea trees that have been growing in northern Ghana for hundreds of years. In order to meet organic standards, 30% of the nuts are left on the ground so their nutrients can be absorbed back into the soil and to support the germination of new seedlings.

To ensure we use the best quality Shea Butter, and purchase it at a fairly-traded price, we source our Shea Butter from a rural women’s collective based in Northern Ghana. This fairly-traded project provides employment, a fair wage and good working conditions for a community of over 600 women who produce up to 150 tonnes of Shea Butter each year, using a traditional method that does not involve synthetic chemicals or solvents.

THE VALLEY OF THE ROSES

rose oil supplier

Rose essential oil helps accelerate the recovery of damaged skin and is an important ingredient in our 20th Anniversary Damask Rose Collection. We source our Rose oil from roses grown in an area of Bulgaria known as The Valley of The Roses. one of the largest suppliers of Rose oil in the World. Legend has it that roses have grown in the region since the early 1400s and this long-history has helped Bulgarian Rose oil earn its reputation as having a superior quality that is recognised World-wide.

Sadly, the peaceful valley’s production came to halt in the 1980s under Communist rule. This meant the land was taken from the farmers and their families and left to become overgrown. The local farmers have only recently been given this land back and have been working hard to get this valley back to the beautiful landscape that it once was.

Today, roses are a blossoming business and their annual harvest helps to provide vital income to support to this growing community.
