The UK is getting much better at making time for self-care at home but too few of us are practising self-care outside the home!
With stress and anxiety levels often at their highest when at work, we’re sharing our tips for self-care on-the-go.
Why practise self-care at work?
UK workers spend a huge part of the week in their workplace and when you’re contending with a busy schedule, it is all too easy to skip self-care at work.
Not looking after your wellbeing can have negative repercussions for your mental health, your skin and your confidence.
Try incorporating these workplace self-care tips into your working day and see if you can boost your wellbeing at work.
7 tips for self-care in the workplace
1. Self-care to stimulate your senses
Scent can boost your mood, your energy and help you focus so we worked with Alexandra Kay to create a trio of Me Time Scents.
Boost your Monday morning meeting mood with our uplifting citrus Time to Smile essential oil blend or focus your mind with the calming, woody aroma of Time to Relax.
A great secret way to get self-care at work, each pure essential oil blend can be added to a workplace ceramic diffuser, such as our stylish desk diffuser by Alexandra Kay.
2. Self-care to cultivate confidence
Some self-care practices can create workplace confidence. If a sweep of mascara, self-tan or lipstick boosts your confidence in the boardroom – that counts as self-care!
Our natural self-tan products and mineral make-up range are ideal for building a bare make-up look for the office. For a subtle, non-streaky tan, we combine our 3 drops of Liquid Gold Tanning Drops with our day cream and apply this to the face at the start of the working week.
We also make sure we always have a pot of One Balm on our work desk. A multipurpose beauty balm that’s great to have to hand before important work meetings, when used as a light lip balm this natural balm provides a subtle sheen as it nourishes the lips. It can also be used to tame brows, nourish cuticles and soothe sore skin.
3. Walk out your worries
Stepping away from your desk for some headspace is great for clarifying your thoughts and getting some perspective.
Use your lunch breaks to get outside and walk out your worries with a stroll around the block.
The vitamin D exposure will benefit your body, but make sure to apply an SPF Facial Sun Cream to protect exposed skin against harmful sun rays.
4. Self-care that acts on aches
Desk discomfort needn’t niggle away at you. Arrange a desk assessment and practise self-care at work to keep those aches and pains at bay.
We keep a bottle of Time to Ease massage oil on our desk and use it whenever we’re feeling a little achey.
To prevent tech neck and eye strain, try our facial yoga routine. A simple way to achieve self-care in the office, it also helps to keep facial muscles firm.
5. Self-care that teases out tension
If your head throbs with workplace tension, soothe your stresses. Drink a calming cup of herbal tea and apply a soothing balm to your pressure points as often as you need to.
Our Organic Babies Soothing Salve can be applied to pulse points and has a light Lavender scent that is instantly soothing.
6. Self-care that soothes stress spots
If pressure at work causes you to break out or makes your eczema flare-up, keep a few essentials in your desk drawer for instant relief.
If stress makes you sweat, keep one of our natural deodorants in your handbag and apply your odour-trapping prebiotic roll-on whenever you need to freshen up.
7. Self-care for the commute
Need a boost before or after work? You can also use our tips to practise self-care on the commute to and from work. To work in a wellbeing workday workout, consider walking or cycling to work.
Alternatively, you can give your mindfulness a boost ahead of your meetings by dispensing a few drops of Time to Relax essential oil blend into a water-filled travel spray bottle and creating a relaxing self-care spritz.
