Choosing a cleanser means deciding what matters most to your daily rhythm, whether that is the texture of the formula, how it smells, or how it fits your budget.

If you have sensitive skin that is prone to reactivity, the choice becomes even more personal, as you look for a way to wash away the day without that familiar, uncomfortable tight pull. We have compared our Green People Scent Free Cleanser with CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser and Pai Middlemist Seven Cream Cleanser to help you see the differences clearly before you choose. Comparison based on published UK product data as of October 2026.

We selected these as the closest matches within each brand for gentle daily cleansing: CeraVe’s non-foaming wash and Pai’s cream cleanser for sensitive skin. This is our comparison of published UK product information rather than a head-to-head performance test, designed to help you weigh up the features that matter to your skin care routine.

At a glance

  • Green People and Pai offer COSMOS Organic certified formulas, while CeraVe offers the lowest price point per 100ml
  • If you prefer to avoid all scents, Green People and CeraVe are fragrance-free, whereas Pai contains aromatic essential oils
  • For a flexible routine, Scent Free Cleanser can be rinsed off with water or wiped away with cotton wool
  • Both Green People and Pai publish 96-hour dermatological patch test results for their finished formulas

Green People for an organic fragrance-free cream cleanse

At Green People, we have been making organic skin care in the UK since 1997, and we formulate our products with sensitive skin in mind. There is no drying alcohol or artificial fragrance in our scent-free range to upset your skin barrier, so your complexion feels calm, balanced and comfortable. It is the same philosophy we apply to every product we make for those who need a gentler touch.

Our Scent Free Cleanser is designed for those who want a thorough cleanse that leaves their face feeling soft rather than parched. It has a COSMOS Organic certified formula and is completely free from fragrances and essential oils.

I believe that what you leave out of a cleanser is just as important as what you put in. By removing alcohol and fragrance, we ensure that the cleansing process supports the skin rather than stripping it away.

- Charlotte Vøhtz, Founder of Green People

It uses a blend of nourishing Shea Butter, soothing Calendula, Jojoba Oil and Inulin to lift away light make-up and SPF while keeping your skin barrier supported. Because we know that even natural scents can be a trigger for some, there are no essential oils or artificial perfumes here.

The silky cream texture glides onto your skin and offers flexibility in how you finish your routine. You can rinse it off with cool water if you prefer a fresh feel, or simply use cotton wool to sweep it away, which is often helpful if your skin reacts to the minerals in hard water. It is dermatologically tested and clinically proven to be kind to sensitive skin. to ensure it provides

“I have now tried one of every single item in the scent-free range and can say I'm utterly staggered at how happy my skin is! Usually I would have to slather on a ton of moisturiser after washing, as my skin would become immediately tight and painful. I use a pea-sized amount now, and no longer have to use hand cream after washing my hands as their hand wash leaves my skin supple and comfortable. Incredible range, wonderful company. Will be a repeat customer for the rest of my life. xxx”

CeraVe for a fragrance-free rinse-off routine

If your main priority is a straightforward, budget-friendly wash that you can use in the shower, the CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser is a practical option. It is a non-foaming fluid that contains three essential ceramides and Hyaluronic Acid to help retain moisture as you wash. It is designed to be massaged onto wet skin and rinsed away, making it a quick step for a busy morning.

It currently offers the lowest cost per 100ml in this comparison, which may appeal if you are looking for an entry-level dermatological routine. While it is fragrance-free and developed with dermatologists, it is worth noting that organic certification is not stated on the UK product page we reviewed. This is a key distinction if you prefer your skin care to be grown without synthetic pesticides.

Pai for a botanical cream cleanse with a cloth

For those who enjoy the sensory experience of a scented routine, Pai Middlemist Seven offers a rich cream format paired with a dedicated cleansing cloth. The formula features Camellia and Sweet Almond oils, but also includes a blend of aromatic essential oils like Rose, Geranium and Lavender. Like our cleanser, it carries COSMOS Organic certification, ensuring a high standard of ingredient sourcing.

This method involves massaging the cream onto dry skin and removing it with a dampened cloth, which provides a very gentle exfoliation. However, according to Pai fragrance guidance, this specific cleanser is not fragrance-free. If your skin typically reacts to essential oils, you might find a scent-free alternative more comfortable for twice-daily use.

Choosing the right routine for your skin

Deciding between these three cleansers often comes down to the small details of your day. If you find that scents — even natural ones — make your skin feel hot or itchy, a fragrance-free choice like ours or CeraVe's is usually the safest path. If you value the transparency of organic certification and a high percentage of plant-based ingredients, then our Scent Free Skin Care range or Pai will align better with your values.

Texture and removal also play a part in how much you will enjoy using the product. A rich cream that can be wiped away is often the kindest choice for very dry or mature skin that struggles with tap water. Ultimately, the best cleanser is the one that leaves your skin feeling calm enough that you don't immediately reach for a thick layer of moisturiser to stop the stinging.
