What is imbalanced skin?
Most of us use several skin care products every day as well as make-up, and our lifestyles often mean that we are exposed to other aggressors, all of which can mean that we end up with imbalanced skin.
Imbalanced skin displays properties such as sensitivities, dryness, flaking, roughness, wrinkles, loss of elasticity, irritation, redness, inflammation, eczema, dermatitis, rosacea, spots and acne.
What can cause imbalanced skin?
BEAUTY PRODUCTS
Beauty products that use harsh foaming agents like Sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS) can irritate the skin, causing symptoms such as an itchy scalp and sensitised skin.
Ethyl alcohol (ethanol) is another troubling ingredient that is often used at levels as high as 12 to 15% to preserve beauty products. This is very drying on the skin and can make sensitive skin even more sensitive. In addition, it may increase the penetration of other substances put onto the skin.
Solvents such as propylene glycol and other PEGs can cause inflammation and redness because they dissolve the fluids needed for healthy skin, allowing irritants to penetrate further. LIFESTYLE EXPOSURE
Your daily living patterns may also contribute to skin becoming imbalanced because airborne and environmental pollutants can have a detrimental effect on your skin. You may not be able to change easily where you live, but you can reduce your exposure to UV radiation, another major influence on your skin and the leading cause of premature ageing.
