Concerned about ingredients in your toothpaste? We are upfront about what goes into our range of natural, organic toothpastes so that you know exactly what you're brushing your teeth with.

Our toothpaste ingredients

ORGANIC ESSENTIAL OILS

Green People makes eight organic toothpastes with tasty flavours made from organic essential oils such as Peppermint Oil, Spearmint Oil and citrus oils.

In addition to giving your toothpaste a minty, herbal or fruity taste, each ingredient has been specifically chosen to support your oral health, without the need for synthetic chemicals.

CLOVES

Clove Bud is renowned for relieving dental discomfort. Naturally antiseptic, this natural oil is used in our Fennel and Propolis Toothpaste to provide fresh breath and help soothe sore gums.

ALOE VERA

A natural powerhouse, Aloe Vera contains more than 75 nutrients, 20 minerals and 12 vitamins. It also has a soothing, antiseptic effect which makes it ideal for people with sensitive or inflamed gums.

Top tip: If your gums are sore or swollen, try massaging a small amount of our Fennel and Propolis Toothpaste on to the sore areas of your mouth and leave it to work overnight to help soothe them.

MYRRH

Much more than a Christmas scent, Myrrh has natural anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties that make it perfect for protecting your pearly whites. A gentle, soothing plant, it helps to keep the gums naturally strong and healthy.

What goes into your organic toothpaste

OLIVE LEAF EXTRACT

Olive Leaf Extract is a natural antioxidant. We use it in our toothpaste to help protect gum health and control the growth of dental plaque in the mouth.

BETAINE

Dry mouth is a common condition, especially in people undergoing chemotherapy. To help you manage the symptoms of dry mouth, we formulate all our toothpastes with Betaine. Derived from sugar beet, Betaine is a natural, sugar-free ingredient which clinical trials have shown helps boost saliva production.

CALCIUM CARBONATE

Gently abrasive, calcium carbonate helps to remove plaque from the teeth. To ensure this ingredient doesn’t scratch or damage tooth enamel we use a special dental grade that is much softer than tooth enamel.

GLYCERIN

Glycerin is added to our toothpastes to help prevent the mouth from becoming dry during brushing. A natural humectant, it holds onto water and absorbs additional moisture from saliva whilst the teeth are brushed - by doing so it provides a protective action against tooth decay.

FLUORIDE (SOMETIMES)

Fluoride is a mineral which is often added to toothpaste to help reduce the amount of acid that bacteria in the mouth produce.

Linked with preventing incidences of childhood tooth decay, Green People produces a fluoride variation of their popular children’s Mandarin Toothpaste, Mandarin Toothpaste with 1000ppm Fluoride, so that parents can choose whether they expose their children’s teeth to fluoride, or not.

We also recommend children’s toothbrushing is supervised to minimise incidences of fluoride being swallowed.

We have also introduced a Fresh Mint Toothpaste with Fluoride for adults in a 50% repurposed plastic tube. This toothpaste contains 1500ppm fluoride.

All other Green People toothpastes are entirely fluoride-free.

Ingredients we do not use in our toothpastes

Here’s what you won’t find in our toothpaste tubes:

SLS (sodium lauryl sulphate)

SLS is widely used in mainstream toothpastes and helps them to foam in the mouth. A harsh irritant, SLS has been shown to cause damage to oral tissues. It has also been linked to gingivitis, receding gums and recurrent mouth ulcers so we do not use it in our fluoride or fluoride-free toothpastes.

GLUTEN

All Green People toothpastes, and indeed all Green People products, are gluten-free.

ARTIFICIAL FLAVOURS, COLOURINGS, SWEETENERS

We use essential oils to flavour our toothpaste, which are all free from artificial sweeteners and colours. We don’t use artificial sweeteners in any of our toothpaste formulas but, because fluoride is incredibly bitter, our fluoride toothpaste contains a small amount of organic, natural sweetener from the Stevia plant.
