How do you recycle Green People packaging?

Curious to know how eco-conscious our packaging is? Here we look at the different types of packaging materials we use and explain how you can recycle our products and packaging after use.

The plastics and indeed all the packaging materials that we use are checked, assessed and approved by Soil Association, Organic Food Federation and EcoCert, each of who have very strict standards on the environmental impact of cosmetics and their packaging.

Except for our toothpaste and sachets, all our packaging has always been fully recyclable and over the years, we’ve introduced new forms of packaging to make our products as eco-friendly as possible.

As of 2019 our range is packaged using the following materials:

Sugar cane packaging

Our latest packaging is made from sustainable, renewable sugar cane plastic. This climate-positive material removes C02 gas is removed from our atmosphere and is currently used to package our range of marine-friendly sun care.

Sugarcane packaging

Just like regular plastic, our sugar cane PE packaging can be recycled with other PE plastics at the curb side through Local Authorities who usually collect plastic bottles and tubes. If your Local Authority doesn’t collect plastic packaging, check with Terracycle for your nearest collection point:

Glass packaging

All our facial oils are packaged in glass bottles and so is our Green People for Men Taming Beard Oil and the Age Defy+ Wonder Balm.

This packaging can also be recycled at the curb side through Local Authorities. Once you have finished with your product simply rinse out any residue and add it to your recycling box.

PP and PE plastic tubes

Glass is heavy to transport and can be hazardous in a slippery shower or a bathroom environment and for this reason, our hair careshower gelsbody lotionshand creams and deodorants are all packaged in plastic tubes.

At present most of these products are packaged in tubes made from either PP or PE plastic but we are gradually changing our entire range into our new sugar care packaging and intend to have completed this by 2022.

Recyclable plastic tubes

PP & PE plastic is widely recyclable and collected by local authorities throughout the whole of the UK.

Modern recycling processes allow both of these plastic types to be recycled many times, not just the once. Therefore there is absolutely no need for this packaging to ever go to landfill or to end up in our rivers, lakes or seas.

PP and PE plastic pumps

Putting creams and lotions into jars would create ideal conditions for product contamination, either from airborne microbes or from fingers or, in the case of toothpastes, toothbrushes touching the product inside the container.

For this reason our serums, moisturisers and cleansers are packaged using plastic pumps.

Recyclable plastic pumps

The Green People pump tubes are plastic recycle code 5, Polypropylene (PP). They are fully recyclable and can be put in with your normal household recycling.

The sleeves and boxes used to package our gifts and starter packs are made of FSC approved cardboard. All our products are posted in cardboard boxes and to reduce unnecessary packaging waste, we repurpose our delivery boxes and use them to transport our products from our door to yours.

Cardboard packaging

All Green People cardboard packaging is FSC approved and can be placed in your household recycling.

Toothpaste tubes

Our toothpaste tubes are made of aluminium-filled PE/PET sandwich in order to keep the product safe for use.

Terracycle accepts all brands of toothpaste tube. Please visit their website to discover your closest recycling point:

Packing chips

So that your products stay safe in transit we pack them with compostable packing chips made from biodegradable non-GMO corn starch.

These remarkable packaging chips will dissolve before your eyes. Simply rinse them in water and watch them vanish.
