How do you recycle Green People packaging?

Curious to know how eco-conscious our packaging is? Here we look at the different types of packaging materials we use and explain how you can recycle our products and packaging after use.

What is Green People packaging made from?

The plastics and indeed all the packaging materials that we use are checked, assessed and approved by the Organic Standards Organisations who certify many of our products and who have very strict standards on the environmental impact of cosmetics and their packaging.

Except for our toothpaste and sachets, all our packaging has always been fully recyclable and over the years, we’ve introduced new forms of packaging to make our products as eco-friendly as possible.

As of 2020 our range is packaged using the following materials:

Sugar cane packaging

Many of our squeezy tube products are now packaged in a material that is made from sustainable, renewable sugar cane plastic. This eco-friendly packaging is climate-positive and we are gradually rolling it out to all of our squeezy tubes. To make it easy to know which of our products are packaged in sugar cane plastic, we’ve added a sugar cane logo to our product descriptions.

Look for the logo:

How to recycle

Just like regular plastic, our sugar cane PE packaging can be recycled with other PE plastics at the curb side through Local Authorities who usually collect plastic bottles and tubes. If your Local Authority doesn’t collect plastic packaging, check with Terracycle for your nearest collection point:

Glass packaging

All our facial oils are packaged in glass bottles. Several of our Age Defy+ products are also packaged in glass pots and bottles including Pure Luxe Body Oil, Hydrate and Renew Serum, Ultimate Wonder Balm, Coconut Charcoal Purifying Face Mask and Hydra-Glow Sleep Mask.

This packaging can also be recycled at the curb side through Local Authorities. Once you have finished with your product simply rinse out any residue and add it to your recycling box.

PP/PE/HDPE packaging

Glass is heavy to transport and can be hazardous in a slippery shower or a bathroom environment and, for practicality, some of our products are packaged in plastic tubes. This includes our deodorants, hand washes and some hair care products, body lotions and shower gels.

At present most of these products are packaged in tubes made from either PP or PE plastic but we are gradually changing our entire range into our new sugar cane packaging and intend to have completed this by 2022.

Our Everyday Hand Care products are the only products we make that are packaged in HDPE plastic bottles.

How to recycle

While PP, PE and HDPE packaging is widely recyclable, some local authorities do not accept these higher-melting point plastics. If your local authority does not accept PP, PE and HDPE packaging, your local Teracycle point may be the best place to recycle these products. Find your nearest Teracycle point here

PP/PE plastic pumps and shives

Putting creams and lotions into jars would create ideal conditions for product contamination, either from airborne microbes or from fingers or, in the case of toothpastes, toothbrushes touching the product inside the container. For this reason, our serums, moisturisers and cleansers are packaged using plastic pumps.

You may also find a plastic disc (shive) covering some of our face masks and balms. These lightweight lids serve an important purpose and helps to prevent the products from being contaminated by bacteria. In the interest of hygiene and product safety, we recommend keeping it in the pot until you have finished the product or are no longer using it.

Green People Recyclable Plastic Pump

How to recycle

Green People pump tubes and sheaves are both fully recyclable and can be put in with your normal household recycling.

The sleeves and boxes used to package our gifts and starter kits are made of FSC approved cardboard. In 2020 we also added an innovative eco-friendly cardboard packaging to our eco-friendly skin care range. The cardboard boxes used for our Nordic Roots range is made with 25% compostable grass which is also biodegradable and 100% recyclable.

All our products are posted in cardboard boxes and to reduce unnecessary packaging waste, we repurpose our delivery boxes and use them to transport our products from our door to yours.
